A complicated mind created worlds that only he could see. What a glorious role to step into. What could go wrong? Does it matter that no one else can see what is unfolding around our dear Don Quixote. Tilt away! Perhaps you shall wake us up into your dreams.

Foray
Oil on Canvas
20x16"

This painting Foray is built upon a previous layer, a self portrait sourced from the imagination 29 years before. That completed artwork was titled Portrait of a Soul.

How many layers of meaning come out of the act of intentionally forming a new image from something created in the past?

I am reminded me of the moment at the end of the story of the Falling People, where we are tasked with creating a new future and invited to fall through it.

The Whisper
Oil on Canvas Board
20 x 16”

The Whisper seems incomplete, if you think about trying for a photographic representation of painting. … And art isn't about that. It is about speaking something into the world that has meaning, that can make a difference.

Sometimes you can change the world with just a whisper. And this painting is just a “whisper” of brushstrokes, with more brushstrokes yet to come. It has all the possibility and potential of the future waiting on the cusp of the next movement of the brush.
